Is that a Fact? (Some Indonesia Knowledge)

As promised, here are some fun and interesting facts about Indonesia – happy learning!

  • Indonesia is the 4th most populous nation in the world with an approximate population of 221,932,000
  • Indonesia’s Capital is Jakarta, located on the Island of Java
  • 86% of Indonesians identify themselves as Muslim, making it home to the largest Islamic population in the world
  • Indonesia is an archipelago made up of 17,000 islands
  • The official language is Bahasa Indonesia (which translates as “language of Indonesia”)
  • Over 580 languages and dialects are spoken throughout Indonesia
  • The giant Komodo dragon and Javan Rhinoceros can only be found in Indonesia

Sadly, the rhinos in Vietnam have since become extinct, leaving those in Indonesia as the only surviving population. Also, there are some great nature videos about Komodo dragons on youtube (I especially recommend those by NatGeo). If you don’t mind a little bit of animal violence, I highly recommend them – Komodos are fascinating!

I credit all my facts to National Geographic’s article found here.
